Architect-Led Design-Build
Stem Construction was founded by Root Architects, an award winning design firm with a big vision. They wanted to see their buildings constructed more efficiently, with a higher of quality, and they wanted to be more involved in the process of seeing the project to completion. In-House Engineering
Most of our engineering team is in the same room as the designers and architects. When everyone is in the same room communication is so much easier. Instead of having barriers between designers and engineers, we’re able to solve problems as we go, anticipate special requirements, and create innovative, efficient solutions to complex issues. The result is a compendium of design options, technical construction documents, schematic design, and more.
Construction Permitting
Navigating the world of construction permits and zoning bylaws can be difficult even for the experts. But we make it as easy as possible, with decades of experience and business relationships with the public offices responsible for permitting. We hold your hand through the process, making it as straightforward and clear as possible, so that we can expedite the permits and get to the hard work of building a great building.
Cost Estimation
It’s no secret that cost estimates for construction tend to be a bit off. We’ve all heard of large-scale projects who’s budgets increase exponentially as they get built. One remedy for this is to make cost estimating something that begins much earlier in the design process. Stem Construction works with cost estimators from day one so that we can be sure that our estimations are as informed and accurate as possible.
Trusted Subcontractors
With very few exceptions, all construction projects involve subcontractors. One company digs the foundation, another pours the concrete, and another erects the steel structure, etc. At Stem Construction, we understand that a building is only as good as each one of its details. We work with our trusted subcontractors from the very beginning of the design and engineering process, bolstering communication and strengthening plan accuracy. Getting subcontractors involved early in the process helps to anticipate issues before they arise, and helps mitigate costs while increasing estimate accuracy.

Construction Management
In the construction management role, Stem Construction serves as your reliable, on-site construction manager throughout the design and construction process. In this role, we are hired by the owner who retains contracts with subcontractors. We then manage the subcontractors, acting in the best interest of the owner. We understand that in order to ensure that all the details are executed to the high level required, we need to be involved in the daily building process, collaborating with subcontractors, solving problems as they arise, and seeing the project through. As construction managers, we take responsibility for the finest details of the work, from permitting to finishing.
